II. INTRODUCTION. Problem StatementThe city of Florence is an excellent city, full of great people and many events to grow the community into a close-knit family. Through Florence Day rides, community-wide Easter egg hunts, sports programs and the Flo-Town USA Splash Pad, there are many opportunities for the children of Florence. As highlighted in our mayor's platform, “We have park employees, parents and grandparents working side by side to make our park an even better place for the children of Florence to have clean fun. We love our children!” (CITE-florence.ms) While there are many programs for young children and families, the city lacks activities for middle and high school teens. Teens are not even allowed to play community league sports because MHSAA does not allow more than five players from the same high school team to be listed on the roster of any community or club recreational or competitive team. Speaking to Mrs. Pam Clark, Mayor of Florence, she expressed her concern by saying: “I, as Mayor, and the elected councilors of Florence are really pushing for more activities for the youth of Florence. We are willing to incorporate the activities you all plan to engage young people. "(Cite this interview with Pam Clark) Being young people in our community, we are aware of the lack of activities available for young people to get involved. Many young people are aware of this problem and want it solved. Having found a solution to this problem, the City needs to know how to market these activities. The mayor of Florence has expressed his concern and is willing to incorporate more activities to prevent adolescent problems. Estimated median household income has also increased significantly. Adolescents make up a large part of the population of Florence. Even though it seems like our city has many resources for our youth due to Florence's close-knit community, we don't.
