The mass media creates a stereotype that promotes an image of how a young man should act, look or resemble in today's society. The media has a great influence on what we see and feel as a society and can especially have an effect on younger men and the image they want to portray. Furthermore, the media has a lot to do with the image we perceive in our mind and young people are easily read by what they see or hear. With the negative influence that floods the media, it accumulates this negative effect on younger men because of the way they look and feel about themselves and others. Furthermore, a man, even if younger, should not expose his vulnerabilities, weaknesses or even show emotions such as love and fear. Furthermore, the mass media contributes greatly to this negative self-image of young males. The media has their own version of what a normal, young male should be like; acting, thinking or even appearing can be very impressionable for the younger male generation. According to D'Arcy Lyness, Ph.D., behavioral health editor with KidsHealth.org, describes in the article A Guy's Guide to Body Image. Lyness writes, "Body image is part of someone's total self-image. So how a guy feels about his body can influence how he feels about himself" (para. 7) . Even though mass media plays a very important role in creating entertainment and awareness, it still shapes the minds of younger male generations. In other words, the mass media creates a negative image in the mind of the younger male. Although mass media plays a very important role in creating entertainment and public awareness, it also shapes the mind of a younger man by creating a false representation of what these men should look like. act and behave in society.
