In this story, a man rides a plane covered in snow and ice to the camp where he is supposed to meet other travelers like him. The setting of this story is one of the most northern areas of the earth, the Yukon. The man must cross this area for approximately thirty-six miles before reaching the camp where he is expected. The constantly falling temperature further complicates the man's excursion. When he begins his journey at nine in the morning, the maximum temperature of the day is fifty degrees below. At the time of the man's death the temperature had dropped sharply to seventy-five degrees below. This setting conveys a sense of harsh reality and an idea of how fragile the human body is.
