He explained that mechanical solidarity is primitive society; where there is almost no division of labor and where almost all people do the same things. As society has become more modernized, we are turning to a world of organic solidarity, which is one in which there is a division of labor. Explain that solidarity comes with differences and that survival requires the great contribution of many people. He also explained his theory of dynamic density, according to which the number of people and the frequency with which they interact will lead to the transition from mechanical solidarity to organic solidarity. This means that there would be greater specialization in jobs which would lead to greater efficiency and productivity. This would lead to an expansion of the population which would lead to a greater division of labor. Durkheim suggested that this would lead to greater peace and prosperity. In the municipality of Roseto a young priest encouraged citizens to build the town by planting fruit and vegetables, raising livestock and growing grapes to make wine. They also expanded the community by creating public amenities such as schools, parks, convents, and cemeteries. Small shops, bakeries, restaurants and bars have also opened. Durkheim's theory explains how society is better when people in the community divide the work. In the municipality of Roseto they divided the work so that the community was more productive. Durkheim also explains how there is a collective consciousness, or shared ideas within a society. This means that not one individual knows everything, but rather the people in society who hold these ideas. Everyone in the Roseto community was willing to work together for the community to thrive.
