College tuition costs thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars per semester and although there are many scholarships and grants for many students, not all students can afford to attend college, even though they would greatly benefit themselves and society with a college degree. Free higher education would allow low-income students the opportunity to earn a degree that they otherwise would not be able to obtain today due to the high price of tuition. According to Wang Huamin, associate professor at the College of Education of Southwest University, Chongqing, China, believes that higher education should be free so that more people have the opportunity to obtain higher education and promote equality. Today, America is trying to bring the separation between the upper class and the lower class closer together, and free higher education would give those in the lower class the ability to work their way up to the upper class by receiving a college degree. To enable more people to obtain higher education, the cost of higher education cannot be as high as it is today and would benefit more people if it were not zero cost.
