He believes this because of his mother's haste to marry Claudius. In Hamlet's eyes, he sees Gertrude's marriage as her desire for someone to sleep with and not feel alone with. However, Hamlet does not see that what he is really trying to do is help the Danish people deal with the difficulties of King Hamlet's death by marrying Claudius. Hamlet loved Ophelia and Gertrude, he just didn't respect them. Hamlet was desperate for revenge and this drove him mad, thus making him very emotional and unstable. The changes that occurred have profoundly damaged him, having a negative impact especially on Hamlet's view on people and life
