1.0 INTRODUCTIONScience and technology are constantly evolving and changing. The latest product released will surpass the first. The first one will just become history. Therefore, computer scientists are striving to develop and find the newest and ideal to meet the needs of users. This task aimed to identify computer components, its function, its importance as well as the latest and future technologies of pointing devices, central processing unit (CPU), memory, disk controller, disk and monitor.2.0 COMPUTER DEVICES POINTING The pointing device is an input device used to allow the user to enter data into a computer. It is connected to a computer or laptop via a USB, PS/2, serial, or Bluetooth connection (Tyler, 2008). It works by pointing somewhere on your monitor, clicking and dragging the item onto your computer. It plays an important role by enabling the user to interact with the computer for many purposes such as browsing the web, editing documents, editing images, playing computer games (Kirschner, 2010) and many more. It is defined as an equipment used to move the cursor on a computer screen (Mac-Millan Dictionary). Nowadays, there are many types of pointing devices such as mouse, trackball, pointing stick, joystick, touch pad, touch screen, light pen and digitizer tablet. The pointing devices you use depend on the type of tasks you are performing on your computer. For example, the joystick is often used to control games. The digital tablet and light pen are used to draw new images or trace old images. It is usually used for drawing maps and engineering design. However, the most commonly used pointing devices nowadays are the mouse and the touch screen. The mouse comes in four types: mechanical, optical, touch-sensitive and wireless, mou...... half of paper ...... while CRT and LCD monitors are significantly thinner with lower radiation emissions. A few years ago, Plasma entered the scene and is gradually making its way into the market. However, later, LED displays came and won over plasma and LCD technology which has various advantages over LCD technology such as better image quality and lower power consumption. Next, the latest technology for monitors is organic light-emitting diode (OLED) which has advantages over LED. Directly producing the correct color, fast response times, wide viewing angles, exceptional contrast levels and perfect brightness, OLED displays are certainly better than other existing display technologies. OLED technology is used in commercial applications such as mobile phone displays and portable digital media players, car stereos, and digital cameras, among others.
