As a result of the cost of the war “America in 1991 had enormous debts resulting from immense deficit spending.” (Chapter 2, page 36) America's debt was the result of America spending money it didn't have at the time. On top of that expense they had an ongoing wartime lease with Brittan. The lease essentially meant that they were shipping and helping Brittan during the war knowing that Brittan would not be able to repay the debts. All of this happened when America was still practicing isolationism. Once America officially began entering the war, expenses skyrocketed. Small businesses also suffered from the little war.
