In contemporary forms, social conservatives tend to advocate the use of government to strengthen traditional social relations. They value established traditions, especially established religious beliefs and practices, and respect traditional authority figures such as business, military, and religious leaders. Although socially conservative views are associated primarily with the Republican Party, in Texas they have dominated the Democratic Party for much of its history, until the last few decades. Social conservatism continues to exert a moderating influence within the Democratic Party. Conservatives believe that government should provide only the freedom that people need to achieve their goals, free markets, and traditionalism. The rich and powerful socioeconomic elites, or make them even more so. It is also the perfect formula for keeping all other people in their place, who, of course, are beneath and subservient to the rich and powerful. They emphasize that the individual has enough power to solve his own problems. Conservatives are usually called "far right"; traditionalism, capitalism, less government and individualism.
