Honestly, before taking this course I had no idea about the constraints on structure that can affect architecture. I always looked up at tall buildings and tried to figure out how they were actually standing. There was no mystery about how transfer loads worked and the importance of column design. Most column placements in a building are not placed randomly but mostly follow a grid. I know this helped me with my studio design last year and with my design while studying abroad. Something I found extremely helpful during class and homework were the awesome free body diagrams! I finally understood what they were for and knew how to draw structural components like beams in sections. I know that often while studying in groups we found each other
