Most abortions occur within the first trimester. The first quarter is the most crucial development period of the three. within the first trimester the baby's body structure and organs develop (“Pregnancy: La”). Most women find out they are pregnant between weeks four and seven. At the fourth week, the baby's brain and central nervous system are forming (“Pregnancy Week”). By the seventh week of pregnancy all the vital organs are in place and the baby has a beating heart. This means that there is a live baby in the womb. By the time your baby reaches the end of the first trimester, the thirteenth week, he or she is fully formed and active. Now this little human is able to swallow, hiccup and even yawn. At this point the child is developed and more alive than a brain-dead human being. For a human being to be declared brain dead there is no evidence of brain and/or brainstem activity (Doyle). This means that the person is now unable to cough, swallow and/or breathe on their own. Most people continue to say that this human being is alive, even though the only thing keeping them going is life support. Consider the mother as this child's life support. If she were to pull the plug (abort the baby) she wouldn't do it again
