Many students like me growing up felt that school was a big waste of time. As a child all I wanted to do was stay outside and play with my friends. I wasn't a big fan of any of the core subjects like English, math, or social studies. This ultimately led to me not doing very well on tests or writing assignments. When I started third grade I was introduced to the drama club. That's where I started to fall in love with school and eventually with acting. It was the drama club that changed my whole perspective on school and in many ways made me try harder in class because if my grades weren't up to some idiotic standard, I wouldn't be able to participate in the club of theatre. Mike Rose's Story “Finding Our Way” I felt more in tune with this problem I was having. Like me, Rose asks the question “Why go to school?” Furthermore, Rose discovered that it was the stupid subjects in school that changed her perspective not only in other classes but also in life. The quote that I think best represents Rose's story is “A good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in the world”.
