I find Carrier Transicold Corporation interesting because it is a global force in transportation refrigeration and a competitor to the company I work for. Carrier Transicold offers the industry's most comprehensive product portfolio for container refrigeration, truck, trailer and rail refrigeration, bus and recreational vehicle air conditioning (Carrier Corporation, 2012). The equipment manufactured by the company provides temperature-controlled transportation solutions to customers who transport goods. Transportation refrigeration units (TRUs) are refrigeration systems powered by internal combustion diesel engines designed to refrigerate or heat perishable products transported in various containers, including semi-trailers, vans, containers and rail cars. Fresh flowers, produce, ice cream, and blood plasma are examples of temperature-sensitive products that require continuous temperature monitoring. Competitive Environment The Transicold company has one of the main competitors in the market. The competitor for market share is Thermo King Corporation. Both Carrier Transicold and Thermo King Corporation are divisions of larger companies, United Technologies and Ingersoll Rand, respectively. Thermo King is the highest priced product on the market and holds the dominant market share. Thermo King's loyal customers include Wal-Mart, Target, CR England and Marten Transportation. These customers purchase trailer products on an annual basis. Carrier's loyal customers include Prime, Grocery Supply and Kobuke, Lee, Liles and Moudy (KLLM). Carrier Transicold has the strategic goal of selling more equipment than its competitors by reducing the unit price to obtain customer orders. This strategy has helped the company increase market share. Thermo......middle of paper......arch. (2012). State of the Industry: US Trailers.
