Within the IBA we find “leaders who demonstrate persistence, tenacity, determination and synergistic communication skills by bringing out the same qualities in their groups. Good leaders use their inner mentors to energize their team and organizations and guide a team to achieve success. (ii) The leaders of the IBA are practicing lawyers, who hold positions at all different levels of the association, from subcommittee officials up to the president. The need for leaders at all levels is a requirement for an association to build and maintain its leadership, and there is no doubt that this has been the cornerstone on which the IBA's success has been built. Ogbonnia (2007) defines an effective leader "as an individual with the ability to succeed consistently under a given condition and to be seen as capable of meeting the expectations of an organization or society. Leaders are recognized by their ability to care for others, clear communication and commitment to persist (iii) Among other characteristics, a leader must also be intelligent, assertive, energetic and flexible, have initiative, good judgment and strong.
