The walls of our temples and the pages of our epics speak of the sexual fluidity that was part of ancient India. But times have changed. This research is based on case studies of eight transgender people from the Cochin region of Kerala and to understand their experiences. The cases include details about when they realized their identity, how they came out, their social networks, and their other past and current experiences. We learn how socialization plays a huge role in our lives and how our experiences are based on the lifeworld we come from. Here the research seeks to understand the difference in the lifeworld of each sample and how this shaped their experiences. The transgender community in Kerala, in particular, does not follow any particular community like Hijra, Sivasakthi and most of the time the community tends to move out of the state to join such communities or find a living. It is interesting to know how a community as such tries to survive in a society that does not have much visibility of the transgender community. Kerala, until recent years, did not have many transgender communities or were not noticed as widely as before because most of them, being ostracized by their family, seek some sort of survival and hence end up in places like Bombay, Bangalore etc. which is considered the hub of the transgender community. The various systems like Hijra, Shivashakthi, Joggama etc. they provide shelter and assistance to these new members. Until recently LGBTQ rights in Kerala were very bright and hence we see many members of the community coming out of their shell and also experience their presence in many sectors, mainly like fashion, makeup, cultural forms and even in bureaucracy. the focus of my study is to understand the transgender gender process and life experiences among the transgender groups of Kerala. Kerala as a state has come up with effective ways to inculcate the transgender community in the society. The opening of Sahaj International School for Transgenders in Kochi, the Metro project, etc. are some of the highlights so far. Cities like Kochi. Trivandrum, Kochi Calicut have many organizations that work for community welfare and development and also they are very vibrant as well. The metro project by the government was a way to inculcate and give employment opportunities to the transgender community. The role of subway station operators, ticket offices, etc. was awarded to the transgender community. However, the project was not as successful as hoped. The project team failed to understand how difficult it is for the community to survive without a roof over their headshead. With the salary they receive, it was almost impossible to survive. Therefore, much of the community had to leave their jobs and return to begging and prostitution. The community, usually lives in a family with a chela-amma relationship and they also have certain obligations towards their community which they call family now, when they live with them. According to the community, they cannot live far away because many people are not willing to give them apartments or rooms for rent due to the prejudice that exists against them and when they live with their community, they are expected to take care of them as well. In the end there is nowhere enough money to survive. However, with further research, I managed to find some transgenders still working at the station and through her I was able to reach a few others as well. Another incident that happened in Kochi came as a shock and disappointment to the community. A group of transgenders attacked an Uber driver and tried to rob him. However, they were caught by the police. Once again incidents like this are what continues to question the community from society at large. Various such incidents, and especially some that will emerge over the next year, demonstrate that the transgender community is becoming more visible nowadays. The emergence of various community welfare organizations and also various government projects have also shown some impact on the growth of the community. However, in the research it can be identified that the majority of samples are trying to live a double life such as that of transgender and that of a person with the assigned sex. Even more interesting to know that most of them are active volunteers of organizations that work for the transgender community but who struggle to make their family and society understand their identity, thus forcing them to lead a life like this. Here, as we look at each case, we will be able to identify how the experience of each case is different based on caste, class, religion, status, etc. Furthermore, to note how there is a division even within the community based on their own status and classes that they have adopted mainly based on the vices and character they have. The transgender community has always existed in our society and has also been part of our religious texts. We have always known about the existence of the community, but we have always kept them away from society. The community has always been exempt from the rest of society and even now, when we see the pattern changing a little, the gap within the community itself makes it harder for them to be accepted into society.
