While wandering the hills around an isolated house, a young boy named Henry, displayed some rather unusual characteristics associated with his behaviors. What seemed like a cute and innocent boy was nothing but the face of hidden evil. Henry was a free-spirited and often wild 12-year-old boy who enjoyed engaging in daring activities while experiencing adrenaline rushes. His behaviors and curiosities seemed limitless, to the point of arousing some suspicion. At this age, these types of behaviors may seem “normal” for a boy like Henry; behaviors that show a certain hyperactivity and self-exploration. However, Henry's attitude and behaviors took a rapid turn as his true intentions and motivations became increasingly clear. Henry is a boy who grew up in a rather large house, located on the top of a hill, overlooking the ocean, in the state of Maine. He comes from two loving parents, a mother and a father, and has a younger sister who looks up to him. He also had a younger brother named Richard, who died some time ago from "accidentally" drowning in the bathtub. Despite the tragic loss, he appeared to have a stable family lifestyle. The character of Henry is introduced in the film when his cousin Mark, who is almost the same age as him, suddenly comes to stay with the family because his father had to leave. for business. Mark's mother recently died right before his eyes and he was still dealing with the repercussions of it all. Coping with feelings of loneliness, Mark immediately developed a close bond with Henry. She found Henry adventurous and kind, but was unaware of who Henry really was and what he was experiencing. At first Henry seemed like a nice guy who liked to try new things. As previously mentioned, Henry's parents failed to discipline and monitor his behaviors. Children learn coercive behavior from their parents through negative reinforcement. Since his parents never kept a constant eye on him, it's safe to assume that the behaviors he adopted were learned somewhere. Since there wasn't much monitoring, Henry's actions were limited and would get worse. Due to his parents' ineffective guidance, his mother in particular was so oblivious and naive to his behaviors. When Mark attempted to warn her, she refused to believe him. She couldn't comprehend the idea that her son was misbehaving until the moment he attacked her. Only then did everything become reality for her.
