Historian Charles Beard calls the Civil War the Second American Revolution. Although some may argue that the Civil War is not a revolutionary war, there can be a convincing case that it is a revolution because change occurred as a result of this war. Therefore, Charles Beard can agree. The Civil War began on April 12, 1861. This undoubtedly became a struggle for the destiny of America. During and after this war, new and traditional techniques and technological advances were used. The Civil War was a war primarily to preserve the union. President Lincoln himself said [1] "My chief object in this struggle is to save the Union, and it is neither to save nor to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without relying on the Constitution, we must consider what and who is been considered Americans. Which means all people, without thinking of any struggle in the past. [1] A revolution is a radical and pervasive change in society and social structure, especially if done suddenly and often accompanied by violence society has changed, but the social structure of society has not. Looking at the historical context, this may be a revolution because social structures have returned to the old ways and then changed to some extent. In 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation was indeed “ proclaimed.” there was still slavery under a new name. Because slavery was no longer allowed, it did not eliminate the possibility of sharecropping border states were not free. only free slaves were slaves in states opposed to the Union.
