There is a recurring theme in CS Lewis's essays Learning in Wartime and Living in an Atomic Age. The theme expressed in both essays was not to be distracted in times of crisis and to continue living. Lewis believes that it is necessary to address the threats faced in this world. Working and living in these times means acting at your highest humanistic potential. The humanistic acts that Lewis believes one should adhere to are enjoying life, seeking knowledge, questioning everything, and discovering the power of the “Creator,” God. Following the path laid out by God will lead us to a fulfilling life that ends when He will be ready for us in His kingdom. God's Divine Providence is what sustains our natural world. We must ignore the threats of life and focus on God's Divine Providence. According to Lewis, it is important to seek knowledge even in moments of struggle and crisis. This was an important point in the essay Learning in War Time. The mission to seek knowledge is one of our duties and, as Lewis says, “every duty is a religious duty and our obligation to perform every duty is therefore absolute.” (Lewis 9) Saying this reinforces the idea that seeking knowledge is our duty and is necessary to live according to God's Divine Providence. To achieve the fulfilling life that God has planned for each of us, we must strive to succeed in everything what we are capable of. The culture that is created when one seeks knowledge creates a greater duty than when one simply gives up. A less extreme form of this might be a college student. College students experience a lot of self-inflicted stress and anxiety. The difficult moment you go through with your workload could be your own crisis. Instead the student feels overworked forcing him to skip class or give up. Some......middle of paper......God and our planned paths. It takes the ability to ignore the threats that tempt us to stop living a life devoted to God's Divine Providence. Both wise men together give us a formula for realizing a life devoted to God and the plans He has for us. We must enjoy life by seeking knowledge, questioning it, and discovering God and the path He has planned. The threats we face in life should not hold us back, we must move forward and sustain the life we are fortunate to have. We must focus on dealing with calamities and focus on our true mission towards God. There will never be a time in life when there is no struggle or difficulty. Dwelling on these constant difficulties will never help us, we must continue to carry out our duties. Lewis has a vision of life that I share. I agree that all our duties are religious duties and help us get closer to God.
