When you start taking that first step on the ladder of life, it's hard to go in blind. At least according to my father, Bob Jackson, as he went through his young life, didn't know where to begin. With a father working shifts in a factory, there was little to go on. Yet, as I spoke to him, I realized that no matter what path you take, change can always be for the better. After high school, my father was caught between a rock and a hard place, not knowing what careers, colleges, or if there were any opportunities out there, he jumped straight into a world of madness, with little guidance. Being the eldest child in his family and coming from a town like Brainerd, Minnesota, he only had his parents to base his future on. Yet, what his father did was the last thing he wanted to do. Shift work at the Potlatch Paper Company wasn't on his radar. His only option was to go straight to college. My father began his general studies at Brainerd Community College and was looking to further his college career in pharmacy. As he made his way through the college experience, he realized that BCC couldn't take him far. After two years of hard work, he went to North Dakota State University and tried to get into the pharmacy program. Yet, I knew my father wasn't interested in pharmacy, so I asked what happened to that dream and what answer I got. Dad said, “With the high demand for pharmacists at the time, the program only accepted students whose cumulative high school and college grades were a perfect 4.0, so I decided to switch to polymers and coatings. However, after I started studying it, I realized that I didn't want to work in that field, so I switched to organic chemistry because the classes were similar. Since… mid-paper… ugh the trip took him far from home, he also got to see a lot of nice places, including most of the continental United States, as well as Bussan, South Korea . As my dad worked his way up in sales, he moved up from sales engineer to sales manager, but still had the same job description just with added responsibilities. As Dad's career has progressed, he has now moved up to the president position at Stern. His duties have become responsible for most of the positions he held in the past, including sales, customer service, engineering, quality control and manufacturing, but Dad plans to go even further. So in conclusion, I found a person who started in one position and never saw himself going beyond it. However, when he started to find satisfaction in what he was doing, he realized that others saw further potential and he decided to climb the ladder to success..
