The independent work I would give them would be modified for special education students and I would have them do half the worksheet instead of all of it to see their progress. Whenever I can, I will give them the simplest problems with the same concept. For students who are learning the lessons quickly, I will give them the hardest problems from the same lesson. I will make sure that students who do not understand the lesson do not feel rushed and I will give other students more work so that they can spend more time on the lesson. This helps ensure that the entire class is at the same level and that no student falls behind.
