Executive Summary The first year business administration program sufficiently covers nearly all of the skills described in the Conference Board of Canada's Employability Skills 2000+ handout as well as can be done in a single year. Each skill is examined and shown how the program transfers knowledge of the skill to the student. One of the recurring elements is the main tasks that students have to complete projects more than the education itself is what students learn the most from. I also noticed that more time is spent teaching communication to students than any other skill described in the handout. There are only two recommendations I would like to make, namely:1. In business computing or business communication the latest web communication and collaboration applications should be taught. New forms of digital communication such as Twitter, blogs and RSS are becoming increasingly important for companies that want to communicate with their customers. Students will need to know how to use these systems correctly.2. There is no real learning outside the discipline, any options taken in the first year must fit within the Business Administration programme. There should be an option or even a requirement to take a course outside of the program. Employability Skills 2000+Introduction The Business Administration program at Grande Prairie Regional College teaches us many technical skills, but what about the more universal or soft skills that are sought? from every employer? The Employability Skills 2000+ (Conference Board Of Canada, 2010) is a useful tool for evaluating whether a specific program adequately imparts these universal skills to its students. In this relationship the Skills will be at the center of the card with their customers. Students will need to know how to use these systems correctly.2. Conclusion Just going to college is helpful in developing all your skills as in many cases experience is more important than education. That said, most of the skills in the Employability Skills 2000+ program are covered in depth in the Business Administration Certificate program, at least as much as possible in a single year of education. There is an emphasis on foundational skills and an additional focus on the communication part of that skill set, and a desire to teach these skills through experience (assignments) rather than instruction.
