He eventually sneaked into the cell of a 56-year-old Bill Roberts and attacked him as he lay on his bunk, stabbing his skull with a knife of his own making and then repeatedly hitting his head against the wall. After that he said he remembers calmly entering the wing office, placing a homemade serrated knife on the desk and informing the guards that two people would be missing from the next roll call. They both deserved to die, right? What if you were in a parking lot with no one around and this man tried to rape you? During Robert Maudsley's final murder trial in 1979, he explained to the court that during his violent rage he truly believed that in his mind his victims were really his parents. Maudsley's lawyers even disputed that his murders were the result of repressed hostility stemming from a childhood of constant abuse. If Maudsley had killed his parents in 1970, none of these people would have been killed.
