Religion and Spirituality in the Workplace Today there are over 900 religious employee resource groups, according to the International Coalition of Workplace Ministries (Cañas & Sondak, 2010) . These affinity groups can help encourage religious understanding by offering roundtable discussions that educate employees about their beliefs. By allowing open discussion, answering religious questions, and creating an open and welcoming religious environment in the workplace, employees can better relate to each other through shared religious principles (Cañas & Sondak, 2010). When examining the business case for diversity, not asking employees to hide their faith at work allows for greater productivity and time and energy focused on business outcomes (Cañas & Sondak, 2010). Often religious differences of the time can create conflicts in the workplace if not adequately addressed and managed. In my article I will analyze two scenarios of religious differences in the workplace and discuss how management, employees and colleagues should respond to the situation. After analyzing these situations, I will discuss the potential impact of Buddhism in the workplace and draw on my insights to explain the importance of managing religious diversity. Scenario OneCreating a Culture of Religious DiversityIn scenario one a recently hired employee, Sonia, begins wearing loose clothing and a headscarf to work. This causes Sonia's employees to start talking behind her back. Sonia can perceive these negative feelings from her colleagues and this makes her become more awkward and less communicative. In this scenario, Sonia's behavior is most likely due to her religious beliefs. While I'm not sure what Sonia's religion might be, Orthodox Jewish women often... center of paper... get the best results from their work. Works Cited ACAS (2005).
