In American society, violence runs rampant throughout the country and causes its citizens to feel fearful and discouraged about their homeland. A major portion of American violence comes from firearms. In the documentary "Bowling for Columbine", the famous director Michael Moore addresses the ubiquitous situation in America. He argues that gun use in America has coincided with or correlated with recent massacres and that America, as a whole, should have stricter gun control laws. Throughout the film, Moore uses specific references to it and employs rhetorical and persuasive tools to build his argument for changing gun laws. An important rhetorical appeal he uses in the film is ethics. Ethos is the credibility or ethical appeal through which one convinces one's character as an author; in this case, Moore proves himself to be a worthy or appropriate person to make the claim to install gun restrictions. He first explains the importance of firearms in his life by explaining that he was born in Flint, Michigan, where the majority of the population either owned a gun or were gun supporters. From his childhood to his youth, he focuses directly on the fact that firearms played a very influential role in his life. For example, Michael Moore is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, meaning he has fulfilled several requirements and/or tasks to be indicted; furthermore, in achieving these goals, they may have changed his opinion in favor of guns or in favor of gun control. Indeed, when viewers of the documentary were informed about its members, likely suggestions emerged that it would be pro-gun and lean in opposition to gun control; in reality, he takes a neutral and impartial position towards weapons and collects data and statistics on p...... middle of paper ...... he has proven to be a very credible person with his impartial point of view , he is shown to be compassionate and understanding towards people who have been killed by current gun laws and a logical thinker who researches statistical data to prove that there are flaws in the current laws. It also shows the viewer that he is a knowledgeable individual with the famous popular culture television show "South Park", from the beginning to the end of the topic you can find symbolisms and key points that he wants to live in a better America and he does. thus effectively building rhetorical and persuasive tools to build his position in favor of changing gun laws.
