Agape is love in its purest form. It is the spiritual form of love. It is God's love for humanity. It is different from philia love because it has a nature of sacrificial love. You love others and don't expect or expect anything in return. (What is the meaning of agape love?) At the beginning of the film, it is quite clear that Phil has no regard for the agape form of love. He is rude, heartless and selfish. But when he gets trapped in Groundhog Day, he finally connects with people on a deeper level. For example, Phil courts Rita only to seduce her sexually, but when he learns more about her goodness and kindness, he feels he doesn't deserve her. Rita has been an object of eros and agape love for Phil but “just before Phil is freed from the seemingly endless cycle of repeating days, he makes it clear that he has completely given up on the search for Rita and has immersed himself in her love. for her instead." (Valentine's Day). This happened because Phil learned through this time loop to love unconditionally. This entrapment makes Phil kind, merciful, unconditional, selfless, and helpful to others. This point is evident from the example of an old homeless man. At the beginning of the film, Phil completely ignores the man and does not give him a single coin. But when he gets trapped in the time loop, he repeatedly passes by the same man and finally, towards the end of the film, he gives all the his money to the old homeless man and takes him to a hospital (Ciscell). When Phil learns that the old man will not survive, he makes his last day of life pleasant by providing him with food and comfort spiritual aspect of agape. The strongest effects of Phil being trapped in the time loop are on his perception, belief, attitude, and practice of agape
