Topic > Claude Debussy: A Musical Genius - 967

Claude Debussy is one of my favorite composers of all time. The music of Claude Debussy has had the ability to alter the way I perceive music and has made me gain a greater appreciation for all types of music. Growing up playing the piano my whole life, as a child it was always difficult for me to follow all the "rules" of how traditional classical music was interpreted. The scores seemed so dull and boring to me, because I played the piece but some parts just didn't sound appealing to my ear. My instructor always frowned upon me for this because it was different from what all the other people were doing at the time. I recognized that Debussy's musical style was also being criticized in the same way mine was one day while listening to my favorite piece Clair De Lune. The song in my mind is just perfect, the harmonies all flow beautifully but, according to others, it's not what they want to hear because they consider it vague and imageless. My struggle to be limited to these so-called rules of the piano has made me appreciate Debussy more and more. Claude Debussy is a French classical music composer. Debussy was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France in 1862. Debussy's music was considered to fall under the study of Impressionism as it moved away from the traditional musical composition methods of key and pitch and was concerned with different intervals in a piece. Debussy began playing the piano at the age of seven, by the age of ten it was evident that Debussy was very gifted at what he did as he was selected to attend a prestigious school for talented musicians, dancers and artists. Debussy stayed for eleven years at the Conservatory where he perfected his talent with the help of some famous composers such as I...... middle of paper...... I believe that Claude Debussy had a touching role in what concerns classical music is today and should remain highly respected throughout the world for the things it has accomplished. Claude Debussy will forever remain one of my favorite classical composers because I can relate to the criticism one has to endure if you want to do things differently with a piece of classical music, I would know because I play the piano by ear and add my talents to a song. I respect the fact that Debussy stayed true to what he believed in and did things not necessarily in a strange way, but in a different way. After all, who can say what is or is not art?
