“Jiro Dreams of Sushi” is a documentary about an 85-year-old man, Jiro, who is one of the best sushi chefs. Jiro owns a very small sushi restaurant that seats only 10 people and has earned three stars from the Michelin Guide. Three stars is the highest rating you can get from the Michelin Guide. Yamamato, the food writer, said that to receive three stars from the Michelin Guide you must meet all three of the following standards: quality, originality and consistency. Jiro met all three standards, thus receiving three stars from the Michelin Guide. There are not many restaurants that have acquired the three stars of the Michelin Guide. You have to be one of the best chefs to get three stars from the Michelin Guide. Jiro is one of the best chefs around and is the best sushi chef. Jiro's son Yoshikazu talked a bit about Jiro's retirement during the film. Yoshikazu stated that the only time retirement was thought of for Jiro was when he was hospitalized at the age of 70 and when the new branch of Jiro's sushi restaurant was opened by his youngest son in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo, Japan. Jiro said he hasn't thought much about retirement. He said if you take his job away it will be nothing because he fell in love with his job and this is what he knows. As you can see, Jiro is a man who has dedicated his life to his work hoping to improve his skills every day and not letting anything get in the way of his work. When I think of seeing if I know someone like Jiro, a hard working and dedicated man, I think of my Uncle Rick. My uncle also dedicated his life to his work. My uncle does what he loves working on cars and building houses. His typical daily routine is to work in his workshop and work in the side houses as jobs come in. He works from around nine in the morning to ten at night, seven days a week. Sometimes he even works longer hours to make sure the job gets done right and on time. My uncle always said that his work is important and means a lot to him
