GKN Aerospace has been a place of work for me as an electrician for fifteen years. GKN's activity concerns the design and production of composite and metallic aerodynamic structures. These aerodynamic structures are then sold to a wide range of companies. Some of GKN's customers are Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Airbus and many others. Aviation structures are built and designed for use in military and commercial aircraft, aircraft engines, guided missiles and space vehicles. GKN Aerospace has been in the industry for over one hundred years. Since then, not only has the production process changed, but so has the knowledge and attention to the pollution and contaminants produced by such production. Some of the pollutants produced by GKN Aerospace arise from the use of solvents, degreasers, paint spraying, spent fuel dumping, and chemical grinding. GKN is aware of these pollutants and has taken steps to reduce the impact these pollutants have on both the environment and the workforce. One of the means they took was the help of the Missouri State Department of Natural Resources and the Occupational Safety and Health Association, also known as OSHA. One of GKN's most recent safety and health improvements is the regulation of chromium. Where GKN uses chrome is in the paint booths, cleaning and priming line and chemical processing areas. Additionally, chromium is released in areas where primed parts are sanded, sanded, or drilled. Many areas have products containing chromium, but do not use them in large quantities. (Chromium will be called chromium throughout the rest of the paper.) GKN uses chromium in paints and primers because it has excellent anti-corrosive properties. .... half the paper ....... in places where large quantities of chromium-containing materials are present or applied, stricter requirements for personal protective equipment will be applied. These areas will also be reserved for trained and authorized personnel only. For chromium-containing dusts, dust masks are very effective. Employees working in paint shops, chemical processes or in clean, prime areas now require respiratory protection. GKN employees, who work in chrome-regulated areas, participated in information meetings and brainstorming sessions. Employees can protect themselves quite effectively by being informed and practicing safe habits in the workplace. Works mentioned "Chromium". Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, 12 February 2012.
