It is important to realize that false accusations of sexual abuse are not common, if a child confides in you, the accusation should be taken seriously. Early signs of child abuse can be critical to a chance for recovery and appropriate treatment. Not all child abuse is obvious, but when you see a warning it is important to look for a pattern of abusive behavior and warnings. Some of the warning signs of emotional abuse include excessive isolation, fear, or anxiety. The child may display extreme behaviors such as extreme aggression. The child will not be attached to the caregiver's parents. Additionally, they will engage in inappropriate activities such as thumb sucking or throwing tantrums. Early warning signs of physical abuse include frequent injuries, unexpected cuts and bruises. The lesion may leave behind a pattern on your hand or belt. The child may shy away from contact with parents or caregivers, flinch at sudden movements, and appear afraid to go where the abuse is occurring.
