Curiosities and anticipation After reading the summary of the novel, the first thing that interested me was the dystopian society in which the story took place. I wanted to know what conditions the people living there were enduring and how much power the government had over those people. I wanted to know what kind of society author George Orwell was trying to warn readers about and why. I was also excited to find out how the novel's protagonist, Winston Smith, will rebel against them to achieve freedom and who will join forces with him. After reading the first quarter of the novel, I was surprised by the amount of power the government had over the population, and the strong monitoring system and rules they put in place to prevent any kind of rebellious acts. I was afraid to even imagine if I lived in a society like that where I would be forced to always agree with the party in control and be monitored 24/7. This quarter of the book led me to two big questions : What is the reason why the government wants all this control over the people? The Brotherhood really exists, and if it exists, it will be able to fight Big Brother. I'm excited to find out and I predict that Winston will find the Brotherhood and join them to fight Big Brother, but I don't think they will be able to overthrow Big Brother because this party is controlling the minds of so many people. and therefore, they can easily use these brainwashed people to destroy the Brotherhood. Few other questions that I am very curious about are how his mother died and if the party is somehow involved in all this, is O'Brien really on Winston's side and if she is the dark haired girl spying on Winston. I think O'Brien is on Winston's side and they will both unite to... middle of paper... if now that he has realized that there is no way to undo what has been done, he decides to continue his acts of rebellion against the party by continuing to write his diary and having sex with a prostitute, which is illegal. The party, on the other hand, is trying to prevent any future acts of rebellion by brainwashing people with frequent videos or news about their enemies, changing history to always work in their favor, constantly monitoring or spying on people and with the thought police stopping a possible threat to society before it grows into an even bigger threat. Winston is fighting for his freedom and the Big Brother party is fighting against freedom. The purpose of this novel is to show what a totalitarian society can do to people and what state people have to live in if a totalitarian system is really put into place.
