Being in love is when two people, whether a man and a woman or even a man and a man or a woman and a woman, care enough about each other to have a relationship or even get to the point where they want get married. No one should care whether or not someone else is marrying the same sex because it's not their life they live in. In March 2005, a San Francisco Superior Court judge ruled on consolidated cases involving same-sex marriage in California. The court found that California's ban on same-sex marriage violated the state constitution. The California Supreme Court unanimously agreed to review the appeals court's decision, and took the time necessary to do so. On June 3, 2008, the California secretary of state certified Ballot Proposal 8, which simply provided that: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." Because of the court's ruling, the State of California began legally performing same-sex marriages on June 16, 2008. In November 2011, the California Supreme Court ruled that state law allowed supporters of Prop 8 to defend it in court. Now only some states are allowing gay marriage to be legal (Hanson). The Defense of Marriage Act does not prohibit states from issuing same-sex marriage licenses, but it aims to address two key issues related to marriage. In its ruling, the Hawaii Supreme Court declared that a Hawaii law banning same-sex marriage was unconstitutional and sent the case to a district court to find out whether the law could be enforced through a compelling interest of the State. When... in the center of the card... a stable love relationship like a marriage with the person they love. Catholic countries like Spain, as diverse as Sweden and South Africa, and neighbors like Canada, have embraced gay and lesbian marriage without any noticeable effect (Boise). It really boils down to letting adults do what they want, they don't hurt anyone. Homosexuals marrying has no effect on anyone except themselves. Although with all the extra weddings, gifts and honeymoons, it would actually be a good way to stimulate the economy. Most people don't realize that just because gay people get married doesn't always mean they're hurting someone else. Why do only some states make same-sex marriage legal? All states should be legal. Everyone should be able to marry anyone of their choice and who cares about the opinions of others, as long as they are happy.
