In the story Lord of the Flies by William Golding, in an attempt to escape from boarding school during the Second World War, numerous British schoolchildren end up stranded on an island after the catastrophe of a plane crash. Before long, innocent children die, society falls apart, and anarchy reigns. The dominant characters of Lord of the Flies, Jack and Ralph, are two boys of the same age and who constantly fight for power throughout the entire novel. While Ralph possesses some lifesaving skills, Jack possesses survival skills that ensure he lives a moderate life while stranded on the island. Jack also accomplishes many things while living on the island, such as creating a tribe, while Ralph only manages to start a small fire on top of a mountain in an attempt to be saved. Considering these facts, Jack is the better leader in Lord of the Flies. Jack and Ralph both describe leadership skills; however, Jack has more useful abilities.
