It's surprising that 90% of boys and 40% of girls play video games regularly. The real question is: how many of these young people play violent video games, and of those, how many have become more violent as a result? Although some people do not believe that violent video games are harmful to boys and girls, they are harmful because they cause more aggressive behavior and desensitize them. Some people believe that violent video games are not harmful to boys and girls. In a recent study, “Researchers found that people serving sentences for violent crimes typically consume less media than the average person in the general population” (Jenkins). This means they also consume fewer video games. However, even if they consume less media before their crimes, they may have played a lot of violent video games when they were younger. In another study, Christopher Ferguson stated, “We found that depressed mood and association with delinquent peers were the strongest and most consistent risk factors for youth violence across all outcome measures” (Ferguson). This proves that violent video games are not as harmful as depression and delinquent peers in creating violence. While this may be directly true, some delinquent behavior is caused by violent video games. So even if they didn't play video games, their delinquent peers probably did, so they were still affected by violent video games. Although some people believe that violent video games are suitable for children, these types of games are not because they can cause aggressive behavior. However, one of the worst outcomes of violent video games is increased levels of aggression. Professor Mark Griffith conducted a study, from which he commented "The s...... middle of paper...... are wrong because games can cause violent behavior and desensitisation of violence. Violent behavior can lead to to more crimes and murders. Desensitization can lead to a lack of interest in fighting or dying. As gaming becomes an increasingly popular pastime, especially among young people, purchases of violent video games should be monitored more carefully to avoid. that children get their hands on potentially dangerous video games.Works CitedDaily Mail, Reporter. “Violent video games make teenagers aggressive.” Daily Mail, 8 October 2012: 4.
