Every country has a justice system in its society in order to maintain peace and equality. The criminal justice system offers civilians the opportunity to receive integrity through a legal system, while also giving them a fair chance to address negligence and misconduct. There are several components that work together to strengthen the purpose served by the criminal justice system. Of course, it includes the rules and laws rooted in the Charter and Constitution on which prosecutors and judges base their decisions. Secondly, it is made up of the parliament which is responsible for putting these laws together. Then come controlling agents, such as police officers and defense lawyers, who regulate society using these rules. Finally, the criminal justice system would be of no use if the world were perfect, but fortunately it is used to help victims and defendants. The criminal justice system document that holds all offenses and penalties for crimes committed in the country is called the Criminal Code of Canada. Over the years, the Law Reform Commission has reviewed laws and proposed them. The commission proposes ideas for laws that would help prevent future crimes. Everyone has a different perspective on what the term “crime” might actually represent. In the textbook, crime is defined as “any act prohibited or punishable by law” and this time the Law Reform Commission is trying to include environmental damage in the criminal code to be considered a crime. Therefore, those who deliberately intend to harm the environment risk imprisonment. This proposal is familiar to the Government of Canada since it was revised in 1985 when it stated: “the natural environment should not… middle of paper… maintain a streak of supporting a strong society when they suggest their laws in the criminal justice system. However, the recently discussed proposal on whether to criminalize environmental damage has sparked controversy. There are many pros and cons that can be recognized in this case. One main thing is certain; the environment is very sacred for every human being and should be well looked after. Therefore, there are many other techniques that can do this rather than simply being inserted into the criminal code. Civilians must have a fair opportunity to address problems as a whole; they can come together to help this environmental issue. Non-legal regulators can work with society to improve our world. Taking legal action would make things more complicated than necessary when considering a law that has more negatives than positives for our justice system.
