Media CensorshipThere is much controversy today over whether or not there should be media censorship. Censorship should not be imposed on citizens by the government or other entities; adults have the right to see or hear what they choose. Furthermore, if children's media is censored, parents are the ones who should monitor and regulate it. Parents should be the ones who control children's television viewing and also what they hear on the radio, CDs and tapes. Censorship includes the screening and blocking of books, periodicals, plays, films, television and radio programs, news broadcasts, and more. means of communication shown or available to the public. Media censorship is sometimes implemented because content is immoral or obscene, heretical or blasphemous, seditious or treasonous, or harmful to national security. It is supposed to be used for the protection of family, church and state. Furthermore, some religious groups, opposed to the violence shown in different types of media, say that censorship works. Even more people who believe in civil rights think it is an unnecessary violation of the right to free speech for all human beings. Media censorship for children is necessary, but should not be handled by the government or other groups. Instead, it should be directed and controlled by parents.
