A lover must desire immortality along with good, if what we agreed before was right, Love must desire immortality” (Plato on Love 67). This was really interesting to me. I never thought about the fact that humans are relatively immortal because they have the ability to reproduce and continue to pass on their DNA. Their morals and memories can also be passed on to their children. In the Symposium it is explained that people desire love because they desire good things that they want to keep forever. I agree with this. Many people want to believe that love is eternal and unconditional, and I believe that with the right person and enough work, that can be true. The story also discusses the importance of beauty and that it doesn't just have to be external. Beauty can be found in truth and wisdom.
