Alcohol is still intoxicating and kills many people every year. A new law on alcohol consumption should not be put in place because lowering the age to 18 would interfere with the brain development of young adolescents. Most teenagers see it as if they could be 18, so why would they wait until they are 21 to be able to legally drink. Even though an 18-year-old has the right to vote and serve in the military in the United States, he or she should have the right to drink and purchase alcohol; the drinking age of 21 should not be lowered to the age of 18 because alcohol can lead to depression and depression leads to unplanned things and sometimes to violent things, also many teenagers who are 18 will be older open to drunk driving (Cynthia Patterson, Tapert) An 18 year old in the United States has the right to vote and serve in the military, so he should have the right to drink and purchase alcohol because, since he is considered an adult, he should take on the responsibility of adulthood.
