Topic > Alcohol Law Change: Ages 21-18 - 640

Alcohol is still intoxicating and kills many people every year. A new law on alcohol consumption should not be put in place because lowering the age to 18 would interfere with the brain development of young adolescents. Most teenagers see it as if they could be 18, so why would they wait until they are 21 to be able to legally drink. Even though an 18-year-old has the right to vote and serve in the military in the United States, he or she should have the right to drink and purchase alcohol; the drinking age of 21 should not be lowered to the age of 18 because alcohol can lead to depression and depression leads to unplanned things and sometimes to violent things, also many teenagers who are 18 will be older open to drunk driving (Cynthia Patterson, Tapert) An 18 year old in the United States has the right to vote and serve in the military, so he should have the right to drink and purchase alcohol because, since he is considered an adult, he should take on the responsibility of adulthood. Lowering the minimum legal drinking age (MLDA) from 21 to 18 would lessen the thrill of breaking the law to have a drink. Another example that shows that an 18 year old in the United States has the right to vote and serve in the military and should also have the right to drink and purchase alcohol is that lowering the MLDA 21 would reduce the number of minors who are injured by accidents or alcohol-related accidents for fear of legal consequences if they sought medical attention. This would mean that they would have responsibilities of being an adult who consumes alcohol because it is their body and they choose what to put in their body whether they are responsible or not. Even if an 18 year old in the United States has. ..... middle of paper ... and killing many people every year, people are too blind to see the horrible effects it has on people; especially young teenagers who are very curious about alcohol. What if many Americans drink and get drunk just because they think they're cool? But what they don't realize is that they could hurt someone or even themselves and have tragedies, murders, murders and even suicides on their hands. Alcohol is a dangerous substance.
