Up to one million lives are aborted every year; lives that could potentially have been those of your neighbor, your friend, or even your son or daughter. Abortion is the surgical process by which a child is killed by various means; and has been in place since the Supreme Court's Roe V. Wade ruling in 1973 that legalized it nationwide. It was initially supported as a women's right, but more recently it has been seen by most as the murder of an innocent child. In addition to this change in opinion, abortion has caused several effects on our culture and nation, as well as the deaths of more than 56 million children, according to Life News. Our society has been deeply affected by the effects of abortion and the loss of millions of innocent lives, and Christian organizations like Operation Rescue are working diligently to stop this menace and social injustice. In 1973, a monumental decision was made via the Supreme Court case Roe V. Wade. Following the case, they found almost all restrictions on abortion to be unconstitutional, considering it a fundamental right. “The Court held that states are prohibited from prohibiting or regulating any aspect of abortion performed during the first trimester of pregnancy, that they may only enact abortion regulations reasonably related to maternal health in the second and third trimesters, and that they may enact laws on abortions that protect the life of the fetus only in the third trimester. Since then, abortion has become much more common, with as many as “3,288 abortions per day and 1.2 million abortions per year” according to the American Life League.
