Now they are dealing with the same problems that many countries face: how to interact with the rest of the world in this new era of global connectivity. They are trying to find the balance between progress and trying to maintain their cultural uniqueness. In this increasingly technologically fueled society, how do they manage to maintain interpersonal relationships? Where should the line be drawn between technology and nature? Which should be given preference? These are all dilemmas that the Norwegian people face today. Norway belongs to a group called the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). This is a group that has close ties to the European Union (EU) without actually being a member. They are granted many of the EU's benefits and incorporate most EU rules into their laws. The EFTA currently consists of the countries Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Land transport between EFTA member states is about to be opened, so that roads and railways are opened between the states. There are also special agreements that allow airlines to have access to properties in other Member States. The group has extended very high protection of intellectual property rights, fighting against copyright infringement, counterfeiting and piracy.
