“We cannot forget that reinforcing economic differences further distances students when schools should bring them closer.” There are many problems in public schools without uniforms. The use of school uniforms could eliminate some of these problems. Although school uniforms can take away a child's individuality, there are more advantages than disadvantages to having school uniforms in public schools because school uniforms reduce money spent on the latest fashion trends and school uniforms provide a positive school climate . A school uniform should be a simple dress. Boys' school uniform should consist of khaki shorts and a simple button-down shirt. The girls' school uniform should consist of plain skirts that reach the knees and a plain button-up shirt. These types of dresses are quite affordable and get the job done. Individuality is a big reason why having school uniforms is a disadvantage. According to the ACLU, school uniforms have had a negative impact on children's creativity, independence and individual behavior. During school, the only way a child can represent their individualism is through clothing. Students cannot express themselves freely in any other form without first contacting school officials (ACLU). Another disadvantage of having school uniforms is that if you have more than one school age child, the uniforms can become expensive (Occupy theory). It also gets expensive because you would usually have to buy more than one dress. You have to buy more than one dress otherwise you would have to wash it every day. A third disadvantage of having school uniforms is that children, especially teenagers, will continue to change the look of the outfit itself.
