NAPOLEON1. The French Revolution marked the end of the Old Regime and had great importance in the history of Europe after the fall of Rome. The main theme of the French Revolution was equality, liberty and fraternity which affected France, Europe and even the whole world. Freedom was the principle of liberalism while equality and brotherhood developed socialism. The French Revolution abolished absolute monarchy in France.2. Napoleon came to power at the end of the French Revolution and is generally considered the culmination of the French Revolution in Europe. Napoleon said: "We have finished the romance of the Revolution, now we must begin its history, seeking only what is real and practicable in the application of its principles, and not what is speculative and hypothetical." After the Brumaire of 1799, the coup d'état placed Napoleon as the first supreme executive of a French empire. After this Napoleon said: "The Revolution is fixed on the principles on which it began; the Revolution is over." (Gershoy, 1947)3. Napoleon gained much fame because he successfully overthrew the revolutionary government of the time and brought peace to France by putting an end to the ongoing civil war. He staged his coup and installed the consulate, which would allow him to assume dictatorial powers. Thus ended the French Revolution, the Republic and the civil war under Napoleon ended and France became an empire. However, Napoleon managed to decrease the civil war and bring peace to France, but at the same time he also gave the common people the civil liberties which were in sync with the slogan of the French Revolution.
