How does pollution affect our mother earth and our human bodies? Pollution has slowly invaded our earth since humanity was born. Pollution affects everything and anything. It affects plants, animals and our oceans. It is slowly killing our planet. It not only causes harm to them, but also causes harm to the human body itself. We might think it doesn't affect us, but in reality it does. It's all a slow domino effect. Global Perspective Pollution is hitting our planet hard and disgusting. “Pollution is one of the biggest global killers, affecting over 100 million people, comparable to global diseases such as malaria and HIV” (according to 11 Facts about Pollution). The perfect example of this is the country of India. In India, 80% of wastewater is left untreated and can then flow into the country's rivers. The terrible thing is that these rivers are the main sources of drinking water for its inhabitants. This is extremely unsanitary and absolutely dangerous to the health of the population. Drinking polluted water can cause severe nausea, vomiting, cramps and severe diarrhea. Even drinking contaminated water can infect the human body with diseases such as cholera, polio, hepatitis A, dysentery and amoebiasis. If left untreated, it can be life-threatening and spread easily. The country itself produces 40 million liters of sewage every day, and only about 20% of it is treated (source: Center for Science and Environment; Excreta doesn't import). A survey was also created and the results were terrifying. Out of 8,000 cities, only 160 had both sewage systems and a wastewater treatment plant. All this can be blamed on the government for not keeping the water under control... middle of paper... laws and regulations are a good idea. Furthermore, informing the public about all the harm that pollution causes them can make them reconsider and change their actions and attitudes towards the environment, and care more about protecting their mother earth. Personal Perspective and Response I personally believe that pollution can be controlled and alleviated. I think with very strict rules, consequences and government action the situation would be under control. It is ridiculous that we are killing our own mother earth, who gave us life and beauty. Unfortunately not many people are educated about this and how such simple things can harm ourselves and the environment around us. I honestly believe that if everyone knew the statics and research and knew what air they breathed and what water they drank, then the earth would be a much cleaner and healthier place to live..
