Topic > Analysis of the 1763 Proclamation Line - 844

I believe that getting the 1763 Proclamation Line was the right thing to do because, first, it was designed to fairly solve the Indian problem (Kennedy). Second, it was used to calm the fears of the Indians (Proclamation of 1763). Third, it stated that all Indian peoples would henceforth be under the protection of the king (1763 proclamation). The line was established to ensure that no one went to war and caused major damage. The Line of Proclamation of 1763 is, therefore, justified by these three points. However, there are opposing thoughts on the Proclamation Line of 1763. The opposing argument according to others is that Americans should not have respected the Proclamation Line at all (Kennedy). The questions asked by Americans at the time about this line of proclamation are: “Was not the land beyond the mountains their birthright (Kennedy)?” Furthermore, “had they not also purchased it with their blood in the recent war (Kennedy)?” One could argue both sides, however, I believe the Line of Proclamation was necessary. The first point made is that the Proclamation Line of 1763 was not designed to oppress the settlers at all, but to fairly solve the Indians' problems and prevent another bloody eruption. as Pontiac's Rebellion (Kennedy). About two thousand settlers and soldiers were killed in Pontiac's Rebellion (Kennedy). This was just one of the main reasons why the proclamation line was adopted. The government didn't want another two thousand people to die in another war. However, countless Americans were shocked and angered by this decision (Kennedy). They felt they owned the land because of the bloodshed in the previous battle (Kennedy). They were in complete defiance... half of the paper... 3 it was the right thing to do because, first, it was not designed at all to oppress the settlers, but to solve the Indian problems fairly and prevent another bloody explosion, like Pontiac's Rebellion (Kennedy). Second, it was used to calm the fears of the Indians, who feared that settlers would oust them from their lands as they expanded westward (Proclamation of 1763). Third, it stated that all Indian peoples would henceforth be under the protection of the king (1763 proclamation). These are all valid arguments as to why the proclamation line was adopted and why it was necessary to ensure the protection of the Indians. The Indians really needed the proclamation line to fight for what they had to prevent another war in which many more would be killed. The government's goal was to protect the Indians.
