Bigfoot in America: Real or Unreal? One of the best-known urban legends told is the story of Bigfoot. Much research has shown that there are several names assigned to the mammoth monkey. According to Napier (1973), Bigfoot would be the creature found mostly in northwestern America, Sasquatch would be a creature named in British Columbia, at the 49th parallel in the northwestern states of America and in northern California, and the Abominable Man of the snows, or the Yeti would be the creature named in the Himalayas. Of course, “Wild Man” and “Savage” were also names used to identify the creature. There have been thousands of sightings around the world, but there have also been many misidentifications where those who think they have seen Bigfoot have actually just seen a normal animal or person. Arment (2006) states that an individual's perception can influence the eyewitness account. Such misidentifications include: hermits, runaways, refugees, bears, gorillas, and simply people making up stories or rumors. In addition to sightings, there have been photos, videos, films and TV shows that strongly point to the possibility of this creature's existence. While there is a lot of evidence for the existence of Bigfoot coming from sightings, myths, and recordings, there is also a lot of evidence that it could all be a hoax. Incorrect sightings have led skeptics to debate the existence of this being claiming that Bigfoot is actually just a fairy tale. So you have to ask yourself: does Bigfoot really exist or is it just another urban legend? Myers 2 "The Wild Man, in many manifestations, has been part of the culture and mythology of nearly every society since the beginning of records." (Shakley, 1983). The first documented evidence of Bigfoot is found in the Epic of Gilgam... center of the card... and, or just pay attention. These three theories are not reasons why it doesn't exist, they are just strengths. From countless sightings, documents, myths, footprints, and research, there is a strong possibility that Bigfoot is real. We can say it is real because of its complete history in different ethnic origins, thousands of sightings and physical evidence left behind. Scientific evidence and skeptical observations could also show that there is a strong possibility that Bigfoot is unreal. Skeptics say there is no fossil evidence, lack of breeding population and reasons to falsify. There are so many strong indications that the giant ape could simply be a bear, or it could be a creature that scientists have not yet fully discovered to prove it is real. The evidence for the existence and non-existence of Bigfoot is equal. Both evidence and theories can help you decide on the presence of this creature.
