How would you react if you were put in a cage and taken somewhere you don't belong only to be stared at by the savages who trapped you? This is a situation that many animals are put into every day as zoos take them out of their natural habitats to be enjoyed by the public. Zoos are very cruel to animals because they cause habitat loss and provide them with unsuitable enclosures. Zoos also accustom animals to city life, so when (and if) they are released into the wild they will not be able to survive. Zoos also cause many cruel diseases and disorders to the animal due to general unsuitability. It is important for the reader to know that zoos are very cruel to animals because if they don't, they will just continue to go to zoos and enjoy undercover animal abuse. When animals are caged and confined in zoos, they suffer habitat loss along with enclosures unfit for our enjoyment. Animals in their natural habitats have more space to graze. In zoos, space is reduced to a ratio of about 1:509000, which is a huge difference. Additionally, in zoo enclosures the animals will only use about 1/12 of their enclosure and will move forward in that space; this is caused when animals are subjected to immediate changes in habitat size. Climate change is also an important aspect when it comes to the suitability of zoo enclosures because if an animal is exposed to an unsuitable climate, it is likely to live shorter and have behavioral problems. Some zoos change the climate inside their enclosures, but low-income cities don't even bother changing the climate to help the animals. Biodiversity loss is another issue when it comes to zoo enclosures. In zoos the animals are usually separated from each other so that the expectation of an American citizen compared to a Chinese citizen is that the Chinese will live longer. As for a captive gorilla and a wild gorilla, the life of the wild gorilla will certainly surpass that of captives because it is fitter. The cruelty to which these animals are subjected leads them to death or madness. As you know, it is important not to support zoos because they are a major factor in animal cruelty. They provide animals with inadequate living conditions. They turn animals into domesticated creatures dependent on humans. They also reduce the life expectancy of the animal due to inadequate conditions. If we all chose to go to zoos, wildlife would soon be abolished. The worlds would be a place that would only contain humans and could lead to a tragic end in the world as we know it. Works Cited http://www.captiveanimals.org/news/2010/03/10-facts-about-zoos
