A hero is someone who shows courage in the face of danger. Odysseus, from Homer's Odyssey, is one of those epic heroes. Odysseus displays all the qualities of a hero. He is fast, cunning and intelligent. But the characteristic that Ulysses expresses most is his courage. During his journey, Odysseus faces many dangerous events. In these events, Odysseus must be brave not only for his men but also to overcome the situation and stay alive. One of these dangerous situations involves coming face to face with Polyphemus. Polyphemus is a huge cyclops who lives on an island in a cave. Upon reaching the island of the Cyclops, Odysseus takes 12 of his best fighters into the cave to get supplies for the journey home. Inside the cave, when Polyphemus returns, he is hungry and immediately grabs two of Odysseus' men for a meal. Ulysses, however, does not panic. He doesn't let his men know he's afraid, or they might lose focus. Odysseus knows that he is brave and strong enough to kill the Cyclops easily, but then realizes that if he kills him, they will not....
