The Baby Boomer Generation covers the year 1946 to 1955. The parents of these Baby Boomers included people who had been part of the Roaring '20s, people who had lived through the Great Depression and who had been through the Second World War. The parents of these boomers who lived through the Depression and World War wanted to pass on a more secure future to their children. These baby boomer parents valued saving money for their children's future. They wanted their children to receive an advanced education (college). These parents identified college with success and the opportunity for a good job. Because many parents did little despite the depression, they wanted their children to have more material things. Boomers were the first generation whose parents actually bought them cars to drive. Baby boomer parents didn't foresee that the automobile would bring cultural changes and newfound independence to young drivers. This led to a different form of dating where parents had no supervision. Boomers were the first generation to have televisions in their homes. Many had telephones at home. Baby boomers had many more opportunities than their parents. Compared to their parents, baby boomers have had it pretty easy. The silent generation sent baby boomers to college, paid if they could, provided a car and money for expenses. The silent generation did not realize that they were raising a generation that would reject many of their own values and become more liberal in their thinking. Boomers often rejected the moral standards of past generations involved in free sex and drugs. They would become the most educated group in American history up to that point. They would be... middle of paper... the first generation to have to deal with terrorism, particularly the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. This has changed the way people travel, attend events sportsmen, look at life with more suspicion. My generation has been given many problems that will hopefully be solved by my generation. The government has an unsustainable national debt and welfare programs. Programs that are well intentioned but cannot be funded by my generation. Changes will have to come through the creative minds of my generation. Furthermore, there are currently very few job opportunities for my generation. Many graduates cannot find work. College costs are at an all-time high, many of my generation wondering if it's worth it or if it's even a possibility. The American dream of a college education, a good job, a nice house and a car seems increasingly unattainable for my generation.
