SUBARU OF INDIANA AUTOMOTIVE, INCORPORATEDSubaru of Indiana Automotive, IncorporatedSubaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc (SIA) is a division of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd (FHI), a company dating back to its origins at the end of the century. Subaru, the automotive division of FHI, has always done things differently, when most other automakers used the vertically configured base engine and rear-wheel drive, Subaru was the first to mass-produce horizontally-engined cars and front-wheel drive, followed by all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. now Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc is even reinventing the way vehicles are produced and recycled. FHI has a long history dating back to 1917, when Chikuhei Nakajima founded The Aircraft Research Laboratory, then was reorganized in 1932 and renamed Nakajima Aircraft Company, Ltd (NAC), a major aircraft manufacturer for Japan in the years before and during World War II (Subaru of America, n.d.). After the defeat and occupation of Japan, aircraft production was banned by the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers, as a result many aeronautical engineers began working in the automotive industry (Odagiri, 1996, p. 216). NAC reorganized again and became Fuji Sangyo Company, Ltd (FCS), and began producing the Fuji Rabbit Motor Scooter. In 1950, due to the Corporate Credit Rerangement Act, FCS had to separate into 12 smaller companies. On July 15, 1953, five of these companies: a coachbuilder, an engine manufacturer, a chassis builder, a trading company, and a scooter manufacturer, merged to form what is now known as Fuji Heavy Industries. (Subaru of America, n.d.) In 1954, FHI began producing automobiles. Company President Kenji Kita sought a Japa...... middle of paper...... Executive Officers."富士重工業株式会社.
