Defeats Grendel and Grendel's mother comes to the hall in anger and interrupts the party celebrating Grendel's defeat. On the same day the attack Beowulf goes to the layer of Grendel's mother and begins a battle. Beowulf eventually defeats her and returns to his home, Gates. He is given land and is king after Hygelac dies in a battle. Beowulf becomes king and danger lurks when a servant awakens a dragon because he has taken some gem-covered goblets. Dragon and Beowulf fight and both die, and his people worship his heroic deeds. However, the difference in the film compared to the poem is that Grendel's mother does not die. And Beowulf remains in Denmark and becomes king, when Hrothgar commits suicide. After Grendel's death, Beowulf travels to her territory, does not fight her, but gives in to her seduction. They create a dragon and Beowulf is cursed and cannot live a happy life. Years pass and the dragon devastates the land of the Danes. Beowulf fights his son and they both die. And Grendel's mother lives on. The similarity between the film and the poem is that Beowulf went to the Danes to help put an end to Grendel's terrorist attacks. Beowulf seriously wounded Grendel, causing him to die. And Beowulf and the dragon both die. The differences in the film and the poem concern the relationship between Grendel's mother and Beowulf.
