With beliefs similar to those of traditional atheists regarding the rejection of God, Hitchens however further conveys his concern that religious ideologies are being imposed on children. He stated: “If the teaching of religion were not permitted until the child reached the age of reason, we would be living in an entirely different world.” Unlike previous atheistic arguments presented by naturalist monist and materialist John Dewey that denied the existence of God or immortality, Hitchens' dominant concern and approach is more related to the effects of religion on society. Like any publication, many critics have stated that Hitchens' book has various flaws. Another identified atheist, Curtis White, claims that Hitchens' book contains several false statements, a major one being his classification of "Eastern religions". White points out that Hinduism and Buddhism are not the same religion, and Hitchens' refusal to acknowledge earlier philosophical traditions in history is another aspect to reconsider (2013, 3).
